Pack Safari makes a difference for animals
By Stefan Rust
In celebration of World Animal Day the southern African tour operator Pack Safari erected a log nest for birds in their organic garden at the head office in Windhoek, Namibia.
Quite a few birds normally build their nests in cavities in larger dead trees. An increase in nesting site has been achieved with this event by providing this log nest, crafted by BirdsConTour, as suitable dead trees are few or non existing in the surrounding.
A lot of effort was needed. First, Florian masterfully welded a stand. Then Bernhard dug a sufficiently deep hole into the rocky ground. Afterwards, the stand was inserted and the nest was ceremoniously hung up in the presence of many animal-loving Pack Safari employees.
Usually such a log nest is favored by the Acacia Pied Barbet and now already the Pack Safari crew is excited when a bird will choose this nest as its home and establishes a family.
