Day 1       OR Tambo International Airport – Kempton Park

Arrival at OR Tambo International Airport and collect your rental car. Short drive to your guesthouse in a lovely large and quiet garden. Here you can relax and acclimatise after the flight before the journey really begins. The air-conditioned guest rooms with en-suite bathrooms are elegantly furnished and offer every comfort such as satellite TV, safe, refrigerator, WiFi, coffee and tea station. At the à la carte restaurant you can enjoy an exquisite dinner.

Day 2       Kempton Park – Swaziland

From Johannesburg travel eastwards and cross the border to the small kingdom of Swaziland, with its green slopes and valleys reminiscent of the foothills of the Alps. You will stay in a stylish country hotel with a vast garden not far from the capital Mbabane. The big swimming pool in the garden, the lounge and the pub radiate a charming tranquil atmosphere.

Day 3       Swaziland – Pongola

Drive across Swaziland in a southerly direction. On the way you can visit a glassblowing workshop or watch the artists of Swazi Candles making their waxy works of art. Afterwards drive across the border back to South Africa.

The Pongola Game Reserve lies above the Lebomboberge and the huge Lake Jozini. Stay in a traditional lodge in luxurious safari tents with en-suite bathrooms. Besides giraffes, zebras, buffalos, rhinos and leopards, the two elephant herds are an attraction of the Pongola Game Reserve. In the late afternoon the first game drive takes place in the Pongola Game Reserve. Just driving through the beautiful landscape in an open jeep is an experience in itself. Day 4       Pongola Game Reserve

Enjoy a full day at Pongola Game Reserve. You can participate in other exciting game drives and other varied activities. The boat and canoe trips on Lake Jozini are a special feature. From the boat you can enjoy nature and wildlife observation from a completely different view. Especially the bird life at the water is fabulous. Afterwards you can explore the bush on foot on a hike accompanied by a ranger.

There is also the opportunity to go fishing, participate in Rhino Tracking in search of the shy black rhino or visit the elephant research project where elephant researcher Heike shares many interesting facts and experiences in an authentic way.

Day 5       Pongola – Manyoni Game Reserve

Today you don’t have a long way to reach your next destination. Your accommodation is in the Manyoni Private Game Reserve, above a valley, overlooking the river far below and the Lebomb Mountains in the distance.

The stone chalets are luxuriously furnished and offer a wide view of the unspoilt countryside. Here you can relax wonderfully, either in the hammock or in your own small pool on the private deck.

Activities include early morning and afternoon game drives, bird watching on the hide and guided bush walks.

Day 6       Manyoni Game Reserve

An exciting day with hopefully many game sightings. Early in the morning there will be an extensive game drive, followed by a delicious breakfast. During lunchtime you can relax in your chalet or go with the ranger to a nearby waterhole and watch birds and animals coming to the water from the hide. In the afternoon you can join a game drive with hopefully many interesting sightings. If you wish, you can also take a bush walk of several hours accompanied by experienced rangers.

Day 7       Manyoni Game Reserve – St Lucia

Drive to the coast, the small coastal town of St Lucia is surrounded by the iSimangaliso Wetland Park and is a World Heritage site. The park consists of about 332 000 ha and features eight different eco systems. A paradise for nature lovers, here you will find the most diverse and extraordinary flora and fauna imaginable.

You will spend the night in a lodge with a beautiful tropical garden where a variety of birds can be observed. Each of the spacious and modernly furnished rooms has a private entrance and a small terrace with direct access to the crystal clear swimming pool.

Day 8 & 9          St Lucia & surrounding area

You have a two-day stay in St. Lucia. You can stroll through the small village on foot. The popular two-hour boat trips on Lake St. Lucia offer the opportunity to observe the hippos and crocodiles living here as well as a wide variety of waterfowl. According to the latest census, about 1400 hippos and about 2000 crocodiles live in Lake St. Lucia.

There are also a number of hiking trails around St. Lucia that offer excellent bird watching – iSimangaliso Wetland Park is home to around 500 different bird species.

An excursion through the Eastern Shore area to Cape Vidal should also be on the agenda. On the way there are various antelopes and other wild animals, with a bit of luck also rhinoceroses. A walk along the endless beach of Cape Vidal is a wonderful way to relax.

You can also take a Zulu Cultural Tour, which gives you an interesting insight into the culture and life of the Zulu people in the past and today. At the handicraft markets beautiful souvenirs can be found.

Day 10     St Lucia – Umdloti

Continue south towards Durban. North of the bustling city is a small coastal town Umdloti, this is where you will spend the remainder of our holiday. Your guest house close to the beach offers a wonderful view over the Indian Ocean.

Day 11     Umdloti

Today you can take long walks along the beach, romp in the waves of the warm Indian Ocean, sunbathe or relax at the swimming pool of the Guest House with a good book.

You can also take a trip to Durban. In addition to the many long beaches, especially the “Golden Mile”, a visit to the uShaka marine aquarium with its amusement park is definitely recommended. The botanical garden is a jewel, here you can stay for hours and discover the most interesting plants.

Day 12     Umdloti – King Shaka International Airport, Durban

Take the short drive to King Shaka International Airport, return the rental car and have a safe journey home.
