Day 1         OR Tambo International Airport – Kempton Park

Arrival at OR Tambo International Airport, where you collect your rental car. Short drive to your guesthouse in a lovely large and quiet garden. Here you can relax and acclimatise after the flight before the journey really begins. The air-conditioned guest rooms with en-suite bathrooms are elegantly furnished and offer every comfort such as satellite TV, safe, refrigerator, WiFi, coffee and tea station. In the à la carte restaurant you can enjoy an exquisite dinner.

Day 2         Kempton Park – Bergville / Drakensberg

Your first dream destination is near Bergville in the middle of the beautiful landscape of the northern Drakensberg Mountains. Enjoy the spectacular views of the mountain range with its famous amphitheatre. In the afternoon you can stretch your legs after sitting in the car for a long time, on a short walk with a wonderful panoramic view.

Day 3 & 4   Drakensberg

You have two days to enjoy the magic of the Drakensberg Mountains. You can get up early and start the day with a short hike accompanied by an experienced guide. After returning to the lodge and a hearty breakfast, you have the opportunity to drive to uKhahlamba National Park (Royal Natal National Park) just a few kilometres away. Overlooking the striking amphitheatre, you can take a hike on one of the small, easily accessible paths.

Afterwards you can rest, go for another walk on your own or play tennis. If you like riding, you can take a nice ride directly from the lodge grounds (optional).

Day 5         Bergville – Rorke’s Drift

Drive through KwaZulu Natal to the Battlefields not far from Dundee. It was here that the fights between the Zulu and the English took place in 1879 and left their mark on South Africa’s history. Stay in one of the spacious and luxuriously appointed cottages with private verandas and a magnificent view of the Buffalo River Gorge. You can relax by the swimming pool in the pretty, well-kept garden. The native plants attract many different bird species.

Day 6         Battlefields
Included: breakfast, lunch, dinner

Let your experienced guide take you on a journey through the history of the Anglo-Zulu War today, told in a sensitive and vivid way. The Battlefield tours to Rorke’s Drift and Isandlwana are both informative and exciting.

You can also go bush walking, mountain biking or horse riding. Many animals can be observed on the way. In the evening you can end the day with a glass of wine and interesting stories at the cosy campfire.

Day 7         Battlefields – St Lucia

Continue to the coast to St Lucia. The small town of St Lucia is surrounded by the iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a World Heritage Site. The park covers about 332 000 ha and connects eight different ecosystems. A paradise for nature lovers, where you will find the most diverse and extraordinary flora and fauna imaginable.

You will spend the night in a lodge with a beautiful tropical garden where you can observe a variety of birds. The spacious and modern rooms have a private entrance and a small terrace with direct access to the crystal clear swimming pool.

Day 8 & 9   St Lucia & surroundings

You have a two-day stay in St Lucia. You can stroll through the small village on foot. The popular two-hour boat trips on Lake St Lucia offer the opportunity to observe the hippos and crocodiles living here as well as a wide variety of waterfowl. According to the latest census, about 1400 hippos and about 2000 crocodiles live in Lake St. Lucia.

There are also a number of hiking trails around St Lucia that offer excellent bird watching – iSimangaliso Wetland Park is home to around 500 different bird species.

An excursion through the Eastern Shore area to Cape Vidal should also be on the agenda. On the way there are various antelopes and other wild animals, with a bit of luck also rhinoceroses. A walk along the endless beach of Cape Vidal is a wonderful way to relax.

You can also take a Zulu Cultural Tour, which gives you an interesting insight into the culture and life of the Zulu people in the past and today. At the handicraft markets beautiful souvenirs can be found.

Day 10       St Lucia – Mabibi

You drive northeast into the Maputaland to Mabibi. Here you are staying directly on the beach, with a view of the azure blue sea – a dream.

Mabibi is a magical place that combines tropical forests, wide grasslands, bush savannah, huge lakes and exquisite sandy beaches. Enjoy luxurious accommodation in fantastic surroundings and excellent food.

Day 11       Mabibi / Maputaland

Today you will have a memorable day at one of the most beautiful private beaches in the country. You can go for a walk, swim or go snorkeling in the crystal clear, warm water. You might like to end a perfect day with a sundowner at Lake Sibiya in the late evening.

Day 12       Mabibi – Manyoni Game Reserve

After “Berg, Battlefield and Beach” you will be off to the bush now. Drive to the Manyoni Private Game Reserve. Your safari lodge is located in the Manyoni Private Game Reserve, above a valley, overlooking the river far below and the Lebomboberge in the distance.

The chalets, built of natural stone, are luxuriously furnished and offer a wide view of the untouched landscape. Here you can relax wonderfully, either in the hammock or in your own small pool on the private deck.

Activities include early morning and afternoon game drives, bird watching on the hide and guided bush walks.

Day 13 & 14 Manyoni Game Reserve

Included: breakfast, lunch, dinner, 2 game drives

There are two exciting safari days ahead of you with many game sightings. Early in the morning there is an extensive game drive, followed by a delicious breakfast. During lunchtime you can relax in your chalet or go with the ranger to a nearby waterhole and watch birds and animals coming to the water from the hide. In the afternoon you can again participate in a game drive with hopefully many interesting sightings. If you wish, you can also take a bush walk of several hours accompanied by experienced rangers.

Day 15       Manyoni Game Reserve – Piet Retief

Distance: ± 170 km
Included: game drive, breakfast

Continue northwest to Piet Retief in the province of Mpumalanga. You spend the night in a family guesthouse with all amenities such as air conditioning, television or coffee/tea station. On the beautiful veranda or in the huge, well-kept garden you can relax with a cool drink and review your many experiences of the past days.

Day 16       Piet Retief – OR Tambo International Airport, Johannesburg

Distance: ± 340 km

Drive to Johannesburg, OR Tambo International Airport, return the rental car and have a safe trip home.
